- Biography
- Naomi Takeda became Director General of the Payment and Settlement Systems Department of BOJ in May 2023. He is a member of CPMI (Committee of Payments and Market Infrastructures) at the Bank for International Settlements (BIS), which is the international standard setting body for payment, clearing, settlement and related arrangements. He is co-leading the international work stream on discussing how central bank money, commercial bank money, and non bank money including stablecoins will coexist in the future. Prior to assuming the current position, he held several senior positions at the Bank, including Director General and Senior Secretary to Governor at the Secretariat of the Policy Board section, and Deputy Director General of Financial Markets Department. As part of his responsibilities, he participated in international committees such as the Committee on Financial Markets of OECD and the Committee on the Global Financial System of BIS. During more than thirty years of experience at the central bank, he has been in charge of a number of issues such as payment and settlement, monetary policy, bank examination, IT development, and human resources management. In the payment and settlement field, he had intensively worked on upgrading Japan’s securities settlement systems as well as large value payment systems.
