- Biography
- Mr. Mohammad Mahbub Alam joined in the service of Bangladesh Bank, the Central Bank of Bangladesh, as an Assistant Director in 1999. Currently he is holding the position of ‘Director’ of “Forex Reserve and Treasury Management Department (FRTMD)” and acting as a member of Bangladesh Bank’s “Investment Committee on Foreign Exchange Reserve Management”. Earlier, he served at the “Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU)” for 13 years as the capacity of “Deputy Director” to “Additional Director”. In addition to that he was also posted in the various Desks/Departments related to Inspection & Supervision, Monitoring & Evaluation, Banking & Development, and FX Reserve Management & Risk Management. As a member of Bangladesh Bank’s “Investment Committee on Foreign Exchange Reserve Management” and the Departmental Head, he has to manage 1) Foreign Exchange Reserves of BB to ensure liquidity, safety and optimum return on Foreign Investment 2) Render External Debt Services along with other miscellaneous forex fund transfer requests in a timely manner on behalf of the Government and, 3) Disburse and receive Foreign Loans and Grants on behalf of the Government to facilitate timely financing of various projects. He has performed as member of the focus group on ‘Digital Fiat Currency’ of International Telecommunication Union (ITU), Switzerland when he was the Head of Digital Financial Services Supervision Wing of “Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit”. He is engaged with core team of Bangladesh Bank for adoption of crawling exchange rate regime in Bangladesh. He has completed his B.Sc. (Hons) and M.Sc. degree in Economics from Jahangirnagar University, Dhaka, Bangladesh. During professional responsibilities he has also participated in various seminars and trainings provided by World Bank, IsDB, IMF, ADB, ITU, and APG etc. He has passed the “Associate of The Institute of Bankers, Bangladesh (AIBB) Examination conducted by The Institute of Bankers, Bangladesh. He has also completed special courses on “International Diploma on Macroeconomic Modeling Forecasting” and “Advanced Training Course on Econometrics Analysis & Research Methodology” conducted by United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UNDESA) and University of Dhaka respectively. He has participated various conferences, workshop, seminars and training in India, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Malaysia, New Zealand, USA, Switzerland, Germany, Japan, UK and United Arab Emirates.
